Garden Week 1

The day after I built and planted the first garden (on the right) I went ahead and built a second one. I added more strawberries to the first. In the second I planted lettuce, swiss chard, spinach, beans, peas, carrots, onions, and beets. I absolutely love beets!! I found a recipe for pink pancakes a while back, and the secret pink ingredient is beets. They are yummy, yummy and super healthy.
Our strawberries seem a little small, though they are turning red. We tasted one the other day, but it really didn't taste very sweet...though Olivia repeatedly exclaimed "yummy!" Not sure what will happen, but I'm hoping they will mature and sweeten some over the next week or two.
Here is a sunflower poking his sweet little head through the dirt. This picture was from a couple days ago. Today, almost all the sunflowers have poked through, along with a bunch of spinach, onions, beans, peas, and beets...no sign of the carrots yet.

Those strawberries will produce more next year. The first year is really for getting well established plants and root systems.
Remember that patch I put in last year? I got maybe a quart all last year. Yesterday we picked three gallons!
