Third Blessing

Within the last week I have had the great delight to find out that my sis-in-law Nancy and my good friend Kelly are both expecting babies sometime next year. They are both such beautiful mommies already it's so exciting to hear that they are being blessed with another child!

After hearing about both pregnancies, tonight as I was preparing dinner I was thinking about when the third blessing would come. "What?" you say.

Over the past several years, I've noticed a trend with our friends and families--babies always come in threes. I know. It sounds weird. But I'm serious! Without fail we have learned of babies in groups of threes. Even with Olivia. We found out about Olivia, a couple weeks later our good friends found out they were pregnant, and then several weeks later my brother and his wife found out about their first pregnancy. Even this past summer--my brother and his wife again, my cousin, and a good friend.

So, back to tonight preparing for dinner and wondering who among our friends and family would be the third blessing...and I know right now you're probably thinking something super profound happend, but let me warn you, it wasn't profound...only light hearted.

As I was cooking the spaghetti Olivia was watching Blues Clues. And let me say, Olivia definitely counts all the characters among our friends and quite like even our family! Well, the first clue was the character Mr. Salt (I like to try and see how quickly I can figure out the end, so even when I'm cooking I tend to keep track of the clues).

"No," I thought. "Surely not!!"

A few minutes later the clue was Mrs. Pepper.

"It is!" I thought. "The third blessing is Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper!"

And finally the last clue was a bottle. Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper have a baby!!! I had to laugh.

Now, I know there is absolutely no way to compare the beautiful blessing of the babies our family and friends are having to a kids show. But, I also have to say I don't believe in coincidences, and I definitely feel like in God's sovreignty He brought me a little piece of light heartedness to quickly heal the twinge of pain my mother's heart was feeling. After all, in our human complexities we are all capable of feeling duel, conflicting emotions. So, while I was genuinely feeling excited for the many blessings arounds us, my heart still felt the pain of a desire delayed. But somehow, this cute little show quickly helped me hurdle the pain and remember that God does have a plan for our family too. In His time, in His way, all our desires will be fulfilled completely, and I just can't wait to see how it all turns out!!!!

Seriously, though, I know the real third blessing is out there somewhere, and I cannot wait to hear about it...whoever you are!!!!
